The Mikado in America -
Russ Sype, who fell in love with Gilbert & Sullivan’s work at the age of nine after his parents “dragged” him to a performance of Pirates of Penzance, will present “The Mikado in America” for ATG members Tuesday, April 11 at 6 pm at the Adobe Theater. Members are invited to stay for a rehearsal following the presentation.
Because a rehearsal follows the presentation, please be prompt - doors open at 5:50 pm and presentation starts promptly at 6:00 pm.
Russ will cover anecdotes of Mikado performances in America from 1885, skipping along, to the “swing” productions of the 1930s. He will include 19th century trading cards and other memorabilia as part of his presentation.
The material he will share with ATG members will be part of his presentation later this year at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. So unless you’re planning on visiting England in August, this is a must-see presentation for G&S fans.Russ ran props, built sets and co-produced Gilbert & Sullivan shows while in college and here in Albuquerque he’s performed in MTS’s HMS Pinafore in 2001 and 2006 and in the theater’s production of Pirates of Penzance in 2005.
This Event is FREE for ATG Members. Please present your Membership Card.
