Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise

Best known for her autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou (April 4, 1928-May 28, 2014) was a singer, dancer, actor, activist, poet and writer. The film traces her journey from her upbringing in the Depression-era South and her early performing career (1957’s Miss Calypso album and the film Calypso Heat Wave and Jean Genet’s play The Blacks) to her poetry which has inspired generations with lyrical modern Africa-American thought.
