What are the Popejoy Awards?

This is a brand-new program sponsored by Popejoy Presents to bring the National High School Musical Theatre Awards to New Mexico. The Awards celebrate outstanding student performances in high school musicals around the USA. Having this program in New Mexico is a coup since it offers 64 students from across the country the opportunity to train with Broadway professionals and perform on a Broadway stage. They also compete for several scholarships.

The Popejoy Awards will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 6:30pm, at Popejoy Hall.  Tickets are available starting April 4 at all UNMTickets locations. They are $25 and $15. Students can purchase most seats for $5. There are no ticketing fees for tickets bought online.

For Theatre Lovers Community members and all who love live theatre, Popejoy’s Terry Davis and Laura Maness will give a presentation on April 4 about the local and national awards, how they are structured, why Popejoy and New Mexico are involved, and how interested folks can participate.

This special talk about the Popejoy Awards is FREE for all who love live musical theatre, and no reservations are required. Come and bring your friends!
